Electronic Service Clinic v. Barnard
634 So.2d 707
The "special errands rule" is an exception to the usual
"going and coming rule" where injuries are not
compensable. Court determined that claimant was
engaged in special errand at time of accident. The
special errand required the claimant to return to his
place of employment to obtain a vehicle and then return
to his home. This case was differentiated from El
Viejo Arco Iris, Inc. v. Luaces, 395 So.2d 225, where
the claimant had done a special errand for the employer
on his way home from work but the special errand had
ended and the claimant had returned to his usual trip
home. The injury in the Luaces case was ruled not
compensable because the special errand had ended.
